OIL / REFINING / PETROCHEMICALS

We are experts in the hydrocarbon industry and cover the full spectrum from upstream offshore platforms and FPSOs through to downstream refining and petrochemical plants. Our engineers have worked for international oil majors on the most complex technologies including hydrotreating, hydrocracking, steam methane reforming, furnaces, sulphur recovery, amine treating, distillation, LNG production and gasification, NGL recovery and produced water treating.

Our geographical spread ranges from New Zealand’s most complex and technically challenging refining process units in Te Tai Tokerau / Northland, to oil tanks in Auckland and flare projects for Petrochemical operators in New Plymouth. Our process support, for example troubleshooting operational problems, advising on brownfields capacity revamps and performing consequence analysis assessments for oil and gas operators throughout the Taranaki region, continues to expand.

DAIRY

Rimmer Engineering provides specialist process engineering and process safety advice to the New Zealand Dairy Industry from Auckland down to Palmerston North. We have both design and operations experience in milk production from delivery to the raw milk silos, through the pasteurisation process and on to the bottle fillers. We advise on ammonia and CO2 refrigeration systems. secondary glycol cooling loops and utility balances.

POWER

Our work within North Island cogeneration plants includes safeguarding reviews, developing purging and isolation procedures for 4 x 10MW gas turbines and implementing the gas industry regulatory requirements for a “System of Operation”.

Our engineers have designed geothermal power plants in New Zealand and across the globe. We have conducted safety assessments for Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) binary plants including producing safety cases, ALARP demonstration and modelling of pentane dispersion.

We provide New Zealand’s largest operators of tanks with specialist engineering advice. This includes hazardous substances regulatory compliance, fire-fighting system assessments, venting capacity checks and design and procurement of normal and emergency vents, as well as retro-HAZOPs for a tank terminal, and providing training to terminal operations staff in P&IDs and isolations of equipment
